Last Chance Mailing and Cancellation of Voter Records
On June 26th, 2019 Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose issued Directive 2019-09 which directs county boards of elections to proceed with the cancellation of the voter registration records that were mailed confirmation notices in 2015 pursuant to the Supplemental and National Change of Address portions of the General Voter Records Maintenance Program following the mailing of a Notice of Voter Registration Cancellation to affected voters.
· In 2015 the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections sent registered voters a confirmation notice in compliance with Directive 2015-09 due to either a lack of voter activity on the part of the voter in the prior two years or because the registered voter notified the United States Postal Service of a change of address in the previous calendar year but did not report that change to the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections. The voters were informed that if they did not confirm their voter information or participate in any voter activity over the next four years their voter registration would be cancelled.
· On July 29th, 2019 the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections will begin mailing out Notice of Voter Registration Cancellation Letters (SOS Form 255-A-3) to registered voters who were originally mailed confirmations in 2015 and have not engaged in any voter activity since the initial mailing. The majority of the voters will have until September 6th, 2019 to respond to the letter or their voter registration will be cancelled. However, voters who are currently registered to vote in a precinct that is eligible for the upcoming September 10th, 2019 Primary Election will be cancelled on September 27th, 2019 if they do not engage in any voter activity by this date. (Note: Any voter who is cancelled under this process is eligible to register again no later than thirty (30) days prior to an election.
