Last Chance Mailing (Supplemental)

On November 20th 2018 Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted issued Directive 2018-39

 to provide county boards of elections with guidance on resuming the supplemental process upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court earlier this year. Secretary Husted previously instructed boards that voter registration cancellations under the supplemental process would not resume until after the 2018 General Election.

  • In 2013 and 2014 registered voters were sent confirmation notices due to lack of voter activity in the prior two years. They were informed that if they did not confirm their voter information or participate in any voter activity over the next 4 years their voter registration would be cancelled.  (Note: Voter activity includes activities such as voting, signing a petition or updating their voter information)
  • On December 12, 2018 the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections will begin mailing out Last Chance Letters (SOS Form 255-A-3) to registered voters who were originally mailed out confirmations in 2013 or 2014 and have not engaged in voter activity since the initial mailing. They will have until January 11, 2019 to respond to the letter or their voter registration will be cancelled. (Note: Any voter who is cancelled under this process is eligible to register again no later than thirty (30) days prior to an election.
